Tri-spout “Three People Walking” Porcelain Teapot

 

What is it?

It’s a teapot with three spouts.

 

Does it work?

Yeah, about as well as you would expect a teapot with three spouts to work.

 

How do I use it?

Use any loose-leaf tea. Larger sizes are better since the pot has no filter system, but smaller leaf teas will work as long as you don’t mind a few floaties.

I find that it pours from all three spouts at least a little bit – it depends on the angle you hold the teapot – so I suggest a bit of practice and some gentle wrist movement to control which spouts are pouring fastest if you want to be able to pour to all three cups in one go.

 

What’s it made of?

Whimsy, as well as high-quality high-temperature-fired Dehua porcelain, made from local Kaolin clay.

 

Does it come with any tea cups?

It comes with exactly three teacups.

 

Is this real?

Jesse says:

Yes, it is real! I saw a teapot like it before, but that pot was handmade. I didn’t know if it was possible to make a quality one any other way, but over the course of several months, we designed a mold in partnership with our porcelain guy, Alex, in China.

It was indeed a lot of energy to put into a small run of a joke teapot, but I kind of wanted it to exist and this is how I get my kicks.

 

Why “Three People Walking”?

One of the most classic quotes from Confucius is: 三人行必有我师, which translates to, “If three people are walking, one of them is my teacher.”

Confucius believed he had something to learn from (almost) anyone, and his humility in growing through understanding others is a cherished cultural insight far more important than our silly tri-spout teapot.

If, however, you indeed do one day meet three people walking, you will now be able to make them all tea at once, admittedly in a bit an awkward and unusual way.

 

This item is a limited run (US market only) and we really have no idea if we will sell any at all, sell out immediately, restock it, never restock it… We have no plan. If there is a plan, I’ll post it here when we have it.
